HP 8600 wireless printer will not scan beyond 600 dpi

My HP 8600 plus wireless printer works fine except when I try to scan higher than 600 dpi. At 1200 dpi, the next level, it starts to scan and stops about 80% of the scan and an error screen pops up telling me I lost connection or there is a firewall problem. The HP website recommened was of no help.

I'd say this is a message meaning it can't write so big a file. But it doesn't tell why, that's a pity.
If possible, try it on another PC or laptop.
