How do I fix my HP mediasmart webcam?

My computer is equipped with the built in HP mediasmart webcam and for the past 2 years has worked great but recently I have had an issue. Whenever I click capture it doesn't record. The capture, snapshot and burst buttons do that fade thing that means they cant be clicked but there is also no stop button and the video is not recording. From this point i am forced to just exit the program. However the webcam does still work to take pictures using the snapshot and burst buttons.

What is going wrong? How do I fix this?

Does the webcam work with other software?

You use the word Mediasmart which makes me think your using HP software to do this. Does the web cam come on, does a light to the left of the web cam come on? if it does have you tried the web cam with other programs. I had nothing but problems with HP software and switch to another program to do my videos. Try going to HP support page and download the latest version of HP Mediasmart web cam software.
