HP 1018 paper feed issue NOT related to rollers

Product Laserjet HP 1018. <span>

<span>The motor spins, but the shaft with the rollers doesn't spin to grab the paper. I removed the (right) side cover to look into the gears, and the gears that drive the shaft and the rollers don't spin. If I gently nudge the gears with a screwdriver it starts to spin and it feeds paper/prints correctly.

<span>Sometimes the motor will spin for up to 10-20 seconds before the paper feed engages. The problem appeared after the printer was dropped/mishandled, but it was in its original packaging. There are no broken parts, no debris of any kind inside the printer, I tried three different toner cartridges, but the problem remains.

<span> Any help/info/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Try fixmylaserprinter.com for ideas but as you know, parts and service are often far more than a refurb'd 129 buck HP 1018. http://www.amazon.com/HP-LaserJet-1018-Printer-CB419A/dp/B000FGLYWM
