Is the infamous dv6000 or dv9000?

Use doesn't seem to matter on this one.
Beyond that my mom's did same. We had to go over how to charge it up.

She didn't know laptops needed charging. Why we had to go over is because she didn't know what the charger looked like or where to plug it in.
Everyone gets to learn this stuff.

If charging isn't a problem a common cause is heat. Check the fans. Do the yearly cleaning: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000780.htm tells about it.

Do you open it or how do you clean it? I know this sounds dumb but other than vacumning the keyboard and wiping the screen I have never heard of how to clean it.

PS. As to why the makers don't tell you I can only guess none do since if one maker told you then they could lose sales because a consumer would think the other models that didn't inform the owners must be better since no cleaning is required. The truth is that a yearly blast of air would hurt the market.

If the battery of the HP laptop is not in a good condition, sometimes booting problems might happen. To remove any static charges accumulated in the battery, you would have to remove the battery and press the Power button for about 25-35 seconds. Then reset the battery. Even after this, if your laptop is not booting up then you could perform the battery calibration and press F8 key to boot in safe mode.
(NT) This does not work on the failed dv6000/9000s.
