CD Rom Does not burn CD's

I have HP Pavilion a600n.
Windows XP
AMD Athlon XP 2800+

CD Rom plays CD's but does not burn. It was burning before, but now it burns 2-3 songs and gives error. Tried different CD's - didn't help.

frustrating problem

Have you tried a CD laser lens cleaner (or manually cleaning it)? Have you installed any software recently? It is possible that you installed a program which altered your burning software shared programs. Try uninstalling or rolling back newly installed software and see if that fixes it.
And of course, it could just be time to replace the drive??

CD-RW trouble

If you want to investigate a little, open Windows Explorer and right-click on the drive letter of the troubled CD-RW drive. In the context menu thoroughly check Properties and maybe look at any other menu options that make you curious.

CD plays but will not burn a CD

I have a HP A6109N Windows Vista and it also stopped burning cd's. It plays cd's fine. I am not a computer expert but I'm afraid I may do something wrong and mess things up. I don't understand of lot of this stuff but could use help. I need easy to explain directions. Thanks

Since you need more instructions than fit here I see your choices are:

1. Have a shop install a new drive.
2. Buy some external USB DVDRW drive.

I don't really know what's causing your problem but here are somethings you might try:
1. Try different software. I know there's free stuff you can download to burn CDs. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than I can make some recommendations for you.
2. Try different brands of media -- they're not all alike. Have you changed brands recently?
3. It may be your CD player is getting ready to fail completely. It takes more power to burn a CD than it does to play it back. The 5 CD changer in my stereo died. It worked fine mechanically but the laser failed.
