New Mac users forum: Migration problems

Migration problems

I have about 250gb of files on my Windows machine I wanted to transfer. I used the Migration Assistant , and when it looked as though the transfer was going on for ever,realised that it was being done by wifi ( and the best speed where I live is a pathetic 3Mbs). So I quit and tried again with an Ethernet cable connection. Same result. Then I tried again but just transferring 500Mb of the data - pictures in this case. It did that fine, except that I don't get to see the file names in the Mac - and without that they are useless. I wonder if anyone can suggest a way round this - so as to reveal the name of the file I am viewing ?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518 covers the basics but why not reach out to your backups for said files? No one today would use any personal computer without a backup of what they can't lose.

Use back-ups ?

Thanks for the suggestion. My back-ups are on an external hard drive, so I guess I can just plug that nin a USB port. Thanks for the suggestion.

external drive problems with new mac

I consulted the suggested website support.apple.com/.kb/HT2518, but all it says is: connect your hard drive to your mac. My Mac does not recognized the hard drive (hp simple save). How can I make it recognize it?
