Can't find external Hard Drive

Hi all, I'm new here.
I have a problem and searched the web and landed up here. There was a similar thread but none of the problems seemed to match mine exactly so I thought I'd try a new topic.

When I plug my Imation Apollo Expert UX-320 into my MacBook it does not show up in the finder or in the disk utility. The lights come on on the hard drive and it makes the normal hum as it spools up.

The Hard Disk works fine in my Toshiba laptop (where I have always used it)

Any ideas what I should try?
