Puzzled!? 'Safari 4 Windows' 5.34.55.3 update is lower 5.1.7
by edgbaston - 5/13/12 6:21 AM
Is something amiss here?
Have gotten use to updated software having a higher number than previous versions. This latest Apple update as advised on CNET Techtracker and Apple Software Update is for a lower number.
i have been using version 5.34.55.3 since advised to update on 12th March 2012 by either Apple Software Update or CNET Techtracker. Now i am being told the new update is version, 5.1.7.
Please advise?

that you re-post this in CNET TechTracker's dedicated forum here?
http://forums.cnet.com/techtracker-forum/
In the meantime I wouldn't try and 'update' your Safari as I agree, it sounds very strange.
Has there been any changes on your system recently, a new computer, or a reinstall of the operating system? If so it may mean that TechTracker's details of your system is out of date and you need to let it re-scan your system, but don't follow my advice as I don't know much about TechTracker and I might be telling you wrong.
Instead, give as much information as you can in your new post.
Good luck.

Please note there have been no major changes on my system. As far as i can tell i am up to date on all Windows updates and have no viruses or other malware present. Please also note that this 'lower number' update to Safari for Windows is not just a TechTracker result but is duplicated by Apple's own Apple Software Update. Their web site's, 'search' also gave no results for, Safari for Windows 5.34.55.3, Safari 5.34.55.3 or 5.34.55.3. Both my Windows, 'Programs and Features' and 'Revo Uninstaller' give my current Safari (for Windows) version as, '5.34.55.3.'
Please advise?
