CNET TechTracker forum: Unable to Uninstall on Mac

Forgot to mention that my console now prints this every ten seconds:

TechTracker has the characteristics of a virus. I thought I had removed TechTracker at least 2 times before, only to find this "TTEngine" process running(a couple months later) for a 3rd time. I've tried to delete the files CNet referenced in the above post and learned the following:

1) As long as TTEngine process is running, preference files get recreated;
2) Try to kill TTEngine process and my browser opens at CNet with TechTracker scanning my computer and Thanking Me for using it( same thing when leaving files in trash and rebooting);
3) Can't kill(force quit) the TTEngine process so, see items (1) and (2) above and repeat(forever!);
4) TTEngine is updating file dates on my computer. Does it send anything to CNet after I thought I uninstalled TechTracker? I don't know, ask CNet.

So far on this 3rd try, I've spent a couple hours of my valuable time researching and trying to get the TTEngine process and TechTracker files off my MacBook Pro(and again failure) and now I'm spending my time posting this comment.

I highly recommend "MacUpdate"(at MacUpdate.com) for automated, accurate, bugfree program updates. It's also free of "virus like" behavior. I recommend CNet create an uninstaller for TechTracker that works; out of respect for their users time.

Using the ActivityMonitor I was able to kill the parent process of TTEngine and then kill TTEngine. I then deleted TTEngine.app but had to re-start before I could empty the trash.

So there is no more TTEngine, but I can't figure out how to remove TechTracker from the Preferences panel.

How do I 'right-click' on a Mac? - and none of the System Preference menu items match the function you mention.

Thanks Gregg, The process worked (with a couple of tweaks of pathnames). Here are mine:

/Users/<myusername>/Library/Preferences/Techtracker.pref
/Library/TechTracker folder

This was on my Mac Pro (non-Intel) G5, running OS X Version 10.5.8, where TechTracker happily installed, but would not allow me to open the preferences pane. It also didn't care that most of the updates it found were not compatible with a non-Intel Mac. Pretty much made it a useless nuisance! Thanks for helping me finally get the dang thing removed!

After using Tech Tracker over a year ago I uninstalled it. It took ages to find out how. Now it has appeared on my computer and does not show up in applications or if I search my computer for TechTracker. I want this F#@*ing thing off my computer right F#@*ing now. I will start contacting your advertisers in 24 hours to tell them why I will never buy a product remotely connected to Cnet.
