Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7

Need Help!

Just purchase the Lumix DMC-ZS7 Digital Camera which I love as it has great options and is fun to use and picture and video quality is great.

I can download the pic's directly to my iMac using iPhoto as I always did with other cameras and that works fine.

Video recorded in AVCHD lite in SH quality.

Problem: Video downloads into iMovie `08 fine and coverts the files from an .mts to a .mov format but when I play the videos they play too fast (I guessing 2X) video and sound however the video plays fine on the camera. Quality is great and I still have the video on the card as this was my first trip to Disney with my kids (very important footage) which I cannot afford to lose.

I have googled the problem but really never found an answer but have tried the following:

1) Ran the video on the latest version of VLC same problem.
2) Downloaded the files directly to my external hard drive from camera and tried to open them, but no program I have would open the .mts format.

3) Going to try to download with a card reader directly to my external hard drive this time, but I think I will get the same results.

I am a novice at video on the iMac and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am willing to update to iLife `09 for the latest software, but only if I know this will definitely solve this problem.

Please Help!!!

but the problem "could" be something to do with the AVCHD format.

iMovie 09 is iMovie v8.0.6 (821) but I cannot say for certain that it will solve your problem.

The good new is that the upgrade to iLife 09 is a relatively cheap one and covers all aspects of the suite.
iMovie 08 was not a good version, so bad that Apple re-released iMovie HD to compensate.

I would suggest that you seriously consider the upgrade.

I'm guessing that you are importing into iMovie directly from the camera in "real time" and not just dumping the camera movie file onto the HD and then importing into iMovie.
I'm not sure what format an iMovie project is but I did not have it pegged for a .mov (usually a finished QuickTime movie) before it was completed and passed off to iDVD or similar.

I could be wrong

I think I figured it out.. I downloaded the files direct from the SD card using a card reader to my hard drive. I then opened the VLC (newest version) and was able to play the .MTS files after I retrieved them from the hard drive.

I was thinking of upgrading but now I might wait for the iLife `10 version, any idea or rumor of when that might come out.. I know Apple is hush hush on all of that..

presumably, be available some time this year.

I have not been keeping track of when the iLife suites are released, but you know someone has, so your guess is as good as mine right not.

Please you got a result on the video, back it up right now and store it someplace safe.

I am having the exact same problem with our new Lumix DMC-ZS7. When importing via iMovie it seems that the video is imported at 2x speed of the sound. How did you fix this problem?

Already erased memory card

Same problem, but I already erased the memory card on which my video was saved. I uploaded the video to iMovie and saw the thumbnails pop up, and so assumed that everything was fine; then, I needed the memory space on the card in order to tape something else.
Imagine my surprise when I went back to watch the video and it was 2x too fast for the audio.
Any way I can fix it? Or am I doomed to watch the video forevermore at 2x speed with the audio out of sync?

and what happens is the video refuses to play, and the audio continues even after the "video" is done;
It's hard to explain.
It says the time left for the clip I'm playing is 1 min 40 sec. The video will not pop up, however the audio is playing; and even after the 1:40 runs out, and the little diamond that tracks the progress of the video is all the way to the right (signifying that the "movie" is over), the audio keeps playing. It's very bizarre.

Yet the AVCHD Lite video turns out to be incompatible with QuickTime Player. Surely you may play it with Mplayer or VLC player.Both are free.

If you want to edit on iMovie,this guide will be helpful for you.
