podcast ratings lost in itunes upgrade

I updgraded my itunes (Windows XP 32 bit) from version 10 to 11 and it appears that all the ratings I assigned to my podcasts have disappeared. None of my podcasts have any ratings. Is this a known issue or might I be doing something wrong?

I see folk have reported such in the past and such ratings are in your library so try installing the last backup and see if it comes back. Again, many folk don't backup so they can't try it.

Are ratings part of the meta data attached to each music file? If so, I'm not worried--it's just a matter of of the itunes library compiling and displaying them.

A quick read seems to show it's not in the song metadata.

But we are peeking under the hood so that's beyond most. I could be wrong but a quick read seems to point it's in the library and not the files.

That would be pretty annoying if all my ratings (and other info) were lost. I'm probably a reasonably small minority, but it took a long time to compile info on each podcast. And I assume rolling back to the previous version of itunes will not remedy this situation? I actually tried to do that. I uninstalled this version, and tried to install itunes 9. But was met with an error message indicating that my library was created with a later version, so could not be used. Kind of hit a dead end there. Oh well. Doesn't look like there's much else to do. It's disappointing that the official Apple itunes forum is so sparse. I'll look around for other Apple forums that might be more helpful with these matters.
