Does itunes save your info if you uninstall it?

I have a Dell Vostro 1000 and Windows XP with an older version of itunes. I'm trying to install the newest version of itunes, but it isn't working. I think my current itunes is corrupt (it never worked that well from the start). If I uninstall the older version of itunes, and then try to install the newest version, will all of my info still be there?

Your music should still be there but,

like all good Windows users, you already have a backup of all the data that you do not want to lose.

Make sure your backup is up to date before you go ahead with this project, just in case something goes awry during the install.
