iTunes 11.0.1 : Artists out of order.

Somehow, certain artists are out of order, from one album.

It is NOT listed as a compilation.

The files do NOT contain other 'Genres' and the like. They were all encoded by me, no 'junk' tags entered, or can be found.

They share all the same info, except for title, file, and artist/album artist name.

There are no blank spaces.

At the end of 'A' and before 'B' I have 'Scubert,' 'Mozart,' 'Beethoven,' and the like, not even in order among themselves, mirrored by the iPod in its collection.

For instance, 'Mozart,' sandwiched in between two names not in alphabetical order, contains tracks from that compilation, and, of course, other tracks from other albums from Mozart. That's fine. Why is it not under M? The album name starts with an 'A.' Also, SOME of the composers from that SAME album appears correctly alphabetically.

What should I be looking for? It's a nightmare to sort, when my other 3000+ songs (no joke,) are ALL perfectly in order in every way.

Random artists out of order

I think I had the same problem. For example, I had an artist amongst the C's that started with an S. What I did to fix the problem was right click on the song, press get info, go to sorting, and changed the "Sort Under" artist title. For some reason, the "Sort Under" artist title was an artist that started with a C and that's why it seemed to randomly place it with the C's. I hope this helps.

I'm afraid not.

I checked, and there is nothing under Artist sorting, a blank space.

I decided to force it, and enter the name of the artist; nothing changed.

Just out of curiosity, how do you sort, or view your songs?

iTunes 11.0.1 (and Im sure earlier versions as well) let you view your content by Songs, Albums, Artists, Genres, Playlists, and Radio.

I'm just curious because when I view my content under Songs, everything is in order.

I have Titles, Artists, Album Artist, Album. I have nothing in the Year/Genre tags, or comments or anything like that. I do not use 'compilation' feature.

Now, keep in mind that I burned this 3-cd set as one album, and manually entered all of the tags via Tag&Rename.

I looked into all of the extended tags via Tag&Rename (newest version) and saw nothing amiss.

I opened up EACH of the dozens of composers' tracks from those CDs individually via iTunes, and there are apparently NEW and DIFFERENT tag classes : Half of them randomly had (verbatim) "arious Artists" and 'Sort Artist' and 'Sort Album' tags that had info I did not put in them. Some had the Comper's name, others has the
"arious Artists" in there, which is why I suspect that those composers showed up where they did under 'A.'
Why some files got this mysterious tag, and others did not, I do not know; there is no option to input it in Tag&Rename, and it could not be read in anything other than iTunes (which I just got, years after files were encoded.)

It's a mystery, but I fixed it. Not solved, per se, but fixed.
