My computer won't recognize my Ipod!

I downloaded Itunes but when I plug in my Ipod to the usb port the computer (and Itunes) don't recognize it. How do I send songs and albums to my Ipod? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes already.

I'm using a new usb cable not the origional cable that came with my Ipod because that one broke. Dose this matter? If so where do I get a new origional cable for my 2nd generation Ipod Touch?

I try my pod on another PC. Then I know where the issue is.
