Manage updates with the Download App
This is a big headache for me -
Text I've entered within iTunes, especially the comments field, is often missing in
the Windows folder where my iTunes music is stored. It also often
vanishes or appears as garbled code when the file is backed up.This
is strange because I've bought an extra program that easily backs up my
iTunes library - and it always reproduces all the metadata every time - so I suspect this is
an iTunes problem - has anyone come across this? is it a problem only in
the iTunes comments field?I'd really appreciate an answer to how
to get around this so I can rest easy that all the metadata/tags are
also backed up, thanks

The metadata is cached and is not updated when we edit the metadata.
Explorer is not good about this and I know the issue but also know not to worry too much about it.

" I know the issue but also know not to worry too much about it" - the information I'm entering into the comments field has great value for me and I need to be able to reproduce it all the time so, yes, I am worried about it
2) I checked the link you sent me - plenty of other people with the same problem (for some years I think) but nobody seems to be able to tell us how to solve it!
all I want to do is to copy/paste some songs in my iTunes library ... and be sure to retain the information in the comments field
any idea how? thanks

It's in some cache file as noted in the discussions. When I pull up the file with a tag editor, it's there but Explorer is not picking it up.
The discussion noted to use a tool to clean those caches. I never did that because eventually Explorer gets it right.
As to why we can't solve it is easy. No source to go fix Explorer and no setting to change either.
