iTunes forum: Can I restrict itunes to just one user account in windows 7?

I just installed iTunes on "Fred's account" but it also appeared on Jane's account. Yet when I installed G-Chrome on Fred's, it only appeared on Fred's, not Jane's...! Is there a way of ensuring that iTunes appears only on Fred's? It will clash with WMP on Jane's, and I don't want that!

What do you mean with "appears". If the install puts a shortcut in the All Users profile, that shortcut will show on her desktop. That's solved by deleting that shortcut and making a new one in your own profile.
Still, as the program is installed, Jane will be able to run it by typing iTunes in the Windows 7 search box.

And what do you mean with "clash"? A program that's not run doesn't do anything, let alone clash.

Just tell Jane not to use it.

As Kees says, remove the shortcut from the All Users folder and Jane will not "accidently" launch it

I've got a similar problem - iTunes in 'Jane''s account determines that I've got an iPad plugged in somewhere on the network, and fires up iTunes. It's a pain in the proverbial, and I'd like a safe way of stopping it happening.

That's not how it works at all.

For iTunes to activate, the iDevice must be plugged directly into the computer.

There is not a way to plug the iDevice into the network.

The only way that Jane's iTunes will see an iDevice is for the user to be logging into Jane's account AND for the iDevice to be directly connected to the computer that Jane is logged into.

With the new update to iTunes, devices can sync wirelessly. The iDevice does not need to be plugged directly in to the computer.

What I've ended up doing is disabling iTunesHelper in msconfig, but then putting a shortcut to it in the Startup folder on the start menu for the account where I want iTunes to detect my iPad.

Result: happiness.
