i'm not talking databases
Tnx Bob but I'm not talking chaos I'm talking personalisation: you insert the cd, get the info form Gracenote, then do some corrections (nearly always), then add your own comments in the comment field ... and after a while you've got your own tiny little database ... My plea is (1) for iTunes to allow us to make a separate backup of that file, one you can export & import too, and (2) for iTunes / Gracenote / any other to allow us to write our stuff away in the cloud, maybe even pick some people's versions with comments in the cloud rather than the ones from Gracenote, and so on ... Because Gracenote doesn't share the comments (for fear of chaos, rightly so) ... yet it's where I write whose original version,
which recording date, who produced and featured on the record), for lack of fields for that in iTunes. (We all agree that's poorly designed. (Also the 'official genre list', the one which you get when you upload, is pretty WASP no? Whether you're talking doowop, soul, funk, hiphop ... it's all R&B. Ska, rocksteady, ragga ... it's all reggae. and so on.)
