Windows doesn't recognize iPhone 4, doesn't appear in iTunes

Hello everyone,

I've been having a problem recently where iTunes has decided my iPhone 4 does not exist. iTunes worked fine before, but when I upgraded to the iOS 4.0.2 I think windows stopped recognizing the phone correctly.

I am running Windows XP (Service pack 3). I think I read and tried every article on apple's website. Downgraded to earlier versions of iTunes, and went to the apple store to see what they had to say. Basically the guy there said that the likely culprit was Windows not correctly recognizing the phone now.

Can anyone help me with a solution?

Hello, I 3lso have the same issue.
I elected 2 weeks ago to upgrade itunes and iphone 4 software which seemed to only upgrade itunes as it crashed during install. Now my PC running XP SP3 won't see iphone at all claiming USB malfunction at device. Itunes won't see it either which means i can't upgrade the iphone software either. No way it seems to roll back the phone without using itunes.I found a windows hotfix that addressed this specific problem "Fix CCS MaxSubkeyName mismatch File version 5.1.2600.5614", applied it but no joy.Had to know where to go next?/
