Stopping iTunes auto-start after inserting a CD

Hi! I am a new iTunes user, and could use some help. I don't want to use iTunes as my default CD ripper or player. In fact, I don't want iTunes to EVER start up unless I click on its icon. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way of shutting off the auto-start after inserting a audio CD. The 'When you insert a CD:' drop-down menu only has a few options and 'take no action' is not among them. So, is there any way I can shut off auto-start for iTunes after inserting a CD? I'm currently running windows Vista 64bit. Thanks for any help!

choose CD & DVD and have the audio application of your choice open when you insert a CD.

System Preferences > CD's & DVD's > "When you insert a Music CD" > Open Application

That what you want?

iTunes still starts even though autoplay off

Found this old post but have the same problems with Win7 and iTunes10.6. My autoplay windows setting is set to take no action when a cd is inserted, yet itunes always starts and goes to the cd. In the general preferences popup there's an option choose what you want to happen when you insert a cd - there is not an option to do nothing. Therefore what I assume is happening is that the ituneshelper process running in the background is the thing that is starting itunes. If I stop that from running at boot will I have any issues?

For years I would hold down the shift key on insert.

Some folk didn't know that so here's a link.

In Windows we often have to discuss Auto Insert Notification and AutoRun. These are two separate functions and to date, I've never found an easy explanation.
