No audio from Smart TV through receiver

LG Smart TV 47LW5600
Sony STR-DH520 Receiver

Two days ago the audio from Smart TV apps and mp4 video from USB drives stopped routing through the receiver. Cable and DVD player audio still work fine.

Both components are ARC enabled and as far as I can tell the settings and cords are all correct.

LG support had me jump through the usual hoops of redoing the cables, unplugging/turning off the components, ect then told me I would have to get a technician to come look at it.

Has anyone else had this problem? It seems from my research online that audio through a receiver seems to be a common problem for Smart TVs but I've yet to find a solution that has worked for my particular components.

ARC has been too dicey for me. I will never tell anyone to rely on it as all it takes is for any device to be updated and the system crumbles. Same thing for settings. I've see techs set it up and it falls apart monthly as the owner either on purpose or by accident flips a setting.

Always get the optical cable in the setup. Then again there are folk that demand that ARC work and you know to keep your distance and never let them hear it might work. They'll dog you for years.
