LG 60PM670T-ZA 3D TV - Help adding external HDD

Hello,
I have purchased a 500GB external hard drive and connected it to the HDD USB port on the side of the TV.
When I press record on the live TV input I was asked to format the HDD, I did so and am able to record from the TV (antenna) input, pause etc. The data is stored to the HDD.

What I want to be able to do is plug the HDD into my laptop and copy video clips to it to watch on the TV. I have windows 7 home edition. When I plug in the HDD to the USB port on laptop I get the connection sound but it does not display in windows explorer.

If I go through device manager - storage, the HDD is there but has no letter assigned. I deleted it and reinitialised it in ExFat format (tried all formats). Copied the video clip to it and plugged it back into TV, nothing! Try to pause live TV get the message to format it again.

How can I achieve my goal, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The recordings are in a proprietary and protected format. The industry mandated this to tie the play back to just this set.

Nothing's busted here but for some reason folk are not getting the answers.

I am not technical at all. I am not sure I understand your reply, are you saying this TV can only use the External HDD for recording from the antenna and pausing live TV? Therefore I can't get content from my laptop to the HDD?

As the laptop can not see the format the TV produces I am unsure it has anything to do with protected formats?

The content the TV records is encrypted and is not meant for use anywhere else.

I didn't find that model at lg.com so my bet it's not some model they sell here.

For my laptop to TV I installed a wireless HDMI solution.

You need separate HDD for recording TV

As R. Proffitt have already said, the TV formats the HDD for recording of TV broadcasts in proprietary format that won't work in the PC, so you can not watch recorded shows on a PC or copy files from PC to it.

If you want to watch videos from PC on the TV, you need another HDD (or just USB Flash drive, which is easier to handle and should be enough for your use), format that in a PC, copy video files to it, stick it to the TV and select it from available inputs (it should show up as 'USB drive'). There you should be able to see the videos from the PC and play them. Be aware, that not all formats of video are playable on the TV, so you will just have to try.
