LG 's Smart OS for their HDTVs

Ok. My son has been bugging me to get a smart TV and so far after some research, the LG one seemed like the best choice. I went to best buy and saw that there was also a Google smart TV offered by LG that ran on the same OS as the android smart phones. Well my son has a galaxy nexus which is also an android device. Is the google TV better than just the regular smart TV? The price difference isn't too bad however I don't want to mess up this purchase.

Yes! Your phone and that TV runs the same Android OS. And since the LG TV has a dual-core processor, everything should be relatively fast and quick. The big thing that Google TV has over a regular smart TV is the Google Play marketplace -- it's huge. While you won't be able to use ALL the applications on Google Play (because most of them are made for viewing on cellphones may require things like an accelerometer or whatever), you can will be able to use a good chunk of them. In addition, Google Play has its own TV category! So as time goes by, there will be more and more applications that are specifically tailored for use on TVs.

So to summarize and answer your question: yes. Google TV is better than a regular smart TV.

I have that on my Logitech Revue and it's browser is head and shoulders above what I see in current Smart TVs. Hulu.com still doesn't play but that's partially because Hulu wants devices to be on their Plus system.

I got a chance to see the G2 outside of the country (out of u.s.) and it is quite a tv. Apple TV had so many gaps in their system but google seemed to have "improved" lg's and sony's existing platform while adding an android like feel.

You can get a Google TV by LG but have you seen the new Google Fiber? It makes you think if you want the package deal of Nexus + Google Fiber or just get an LG Google TV because Google Play Store is not integrated in the new Google Fiber.

Honestly, I am a fan of the LG TV with the integration of Google TV. There is nothing wrong with the Google Smart TV, but I prefer the picture quality and the overall quality of LG televisions. I recommend you get the integrated LG Google TV.
