LG 47LV5500 problem using time machine feature

I have recently purchased an LG TV model 47LV5500 and I am having trouble using the "rewind live TV" (time machine) feature.

I have succesfully installed and initialised a hard drive to USB1 and the record and playback functions are basically working. Except that if I pause live TV and then try to use the fast forward and fast rewind buttons to check out the recorded data, it frequently drops back into normal play speed for no apparant reason.

My software version is 03.05.14

I would be grateful for any advice from any other users of this model TV who have tried (with or without success) to use the rewind live TV feature.

I just got this TV Friday and I saw no mention of any such feature in the manual. Where did you find out about this, and how do I find the instructions for setting it up? As I said, nothing in the manual about this.

LG 47LV5500 owners manual

With my set I received two owners manuals. There was a hard copy manual consisting of 51 pages and labelled "Owner's Manual LED LCD TV". This covers a wide range of LG TVs (including 3D moels) but gives very little information about actually using the set.

The other manual I found as a PDF file and is 183 pages long. On the cover it is labelled "Owner's Manual LED LCD TV / PLASMA TV" and it also covers numerous different models.

There is a section about the "DVR Function" commencing on page 73

Note that in order to use the "time machine" or scheduled recording features, you have to connect a USB storage device. In esponse to my enquiries I received conflicting advice about whether it was best to use a "bus powered" drive or one which has a separate power supply. Advice from LG Technical Support favored separately powered devices so this is what I am using.

Note that whten you connect your external hard drive, the TV has to format it in a special way that is not compatible with Windows.

Even after updating my TV firmware 4 times, (I am now on 04.02.07) the original problem remains. That is that while the "rewind live TV" feature is basically working, there are problems while using fast forward or fast rewind during play back.

By the way, if it makes any difference I am in Sydney, Australia and I purchased the set from Harvey Norman's Belrose store.

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/25958-lv5500-plexmedialink-very-buggy/ was not hard to find so call it confirmed and ask for a fast fix or move to a refund.

What I'm seeing is these bugs are usually never cured. The makers write "sorry" and tend to move to the next model.

On further testing I have found that the problem is not restricted to when the "time machine" feature is being used.

I manually scheduled a recording thereby creating an entry in the schedule list. When I play back the recording (from the USB harddrive) I have the same problem with fast forward and fast reverse not working correctly - that is the machine frequently drops back into normal Play speed rather than remaining at x2 or any other selected speed.
