thinking about larger HD for MBPro 7,1

I currently use a MacBookPro7,1 with the original hardware. I'm gonna do an OS upgrade soon. That is why I'm thinking about doing a few hardware upgrades first, like maxing out the ram but right now I'm looking at increasing the hard drive size.

Currently I'm considering between a WD Scorpio Black 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 2.5" Internal Hard Drive (WD5000BPKT) and the WD 750GB Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT Internal Hard Drive (WD7500BPKT).

The 16 mb buffer and the 7200 rpm disc made it an attractive choice for me. Anyone have an opinion? Would there be a better choice?

OS10.6.8 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz 4 Gb ram

If the original drive was a 5400rpm drive

then the fast replacements "may" have an effect on battery run time and possible heat but that is usually something that you can live with.

Otherwise, either one of those drives will do nicely.

... however, I never (only once or twice a year, maybe) run this laptop off the ac connector.

Heat? I usually have a chill pad underneath of it.

The faster spin speed will hopefully increase performance when accessing the larger storage.

Next, I need to consider getting new RAM to max the laptop out, from its' current 4 Gb.
