Mac laptops forum: apple + connecton time out occurred

Not sure. It has always logged onto the net automatically? Presumably it uses my ISP providers' IP address.

It says it cannot find PPPoE server - as I said this just happened with the latest download?

now go to System Preferences > Network and click on your method of connecting to your modem. (Ethernet or Airport(wireless)
Click the Assist Me button.
Choose Diagnostics
Check that all the lights in the left pane are Green.
If they are not, then you are not getting out to the internet. In the right hand window, choose your method of connection and click Continue.
Follow the instructions and see how you get on.

What type of Broadband do you have? Cable or DSL. (Sounds like DSL as Cable does not normally use PPPoE)
If DSL, make sure that your password is entered in the required place

with that IP address, it would seem that you have a router in your network. As you have not mentioned it I assume that you have a DSL connection and that your Modem is also a Router. (possibly wireless)

Go through the setup procedure for your Modem/Router and see if that helps at all.

Yes I have a belkin wireless router and connect through dsl. As I said though until the latest update/download from Apple, all was well and it connected to the internet using wi-fi without any issues.
I have gone through the system preferences>assit me> and found that the wi-fi aspects now show red. I still get the message either conenction timed out or you are not connected because....etc. No matter what I do re the advice it will not see the internet re wi-fi. The router set procedures are straight forward and without dismantling the router etc, which I am loarthe to so as everything else works, not sure what has happened.
I can connect to the internet using an ethnet cable but I want to get back to being wireless.
Nothing has changed on the router and I run 2PC's and a laptop without any glitches? So somehting in the latest download might have affected the settings?

and this is the first time that you felt it necessary to mention that it was your Wireless connection that had failed and that you could access the internet using the wired connection.

Wouldn't it have been nice had you mentioned the Wireless thing in your first post?

So, back to square one. Is the WiFi turned on?
Is there any Security on the wireless network.
If so, is it WEP or WPA?

Have you tried turning off the security to see if you can connect then?

I have turned off the security WPA and it connected. Presumably I can now turn back on the secutiy, or will that cause it to time out again?

Again I am sorry that I did not mention the fact it was just the wi-fi aspect that had stopped working on the AMP.

Unforunatley, when I re-enabled the WPA password on the router the wi-fi connection to the AMP went back to timed out and could not establish a connection.

So I diabled the password again in the router and AMP found the wi-fi conenction. Once I turned the security back on again it lost it again?

But I can't find the details here.

These have already been done.

It DOES NOT matter that other things work. We have seen this issue time and time again. Sometimes the router has new firmware but looking over this post those details are missing.

Sorry but trying another router is just not an option when I have a router that works well with all my other computers - it has nothing to do with the firmware - the issue lies in the AMP. Nothing else is effected and the only thing that does not work is the AMP in that it refuses to find the wifi network when the security is on (and that has always been on).

As I said it started wiht the latest download 10.7.2. Please forget router issues -it is sound.

download the 10.7.2 update again

Sometimes a re-download fixes those annoying problems.

Further, are you saying that the MP (it's not an Apple Mac Pro) cannot even "see" your wireless network?

Thanks I will do a another download.

The MP sees my wifi network but unless I turn off the router securtiy it will not now connect. (Connection timed out occurred) It used to and all was well until that update.

I downloaded the update and installed it. However, I still get timed out when I try the wi-fi connection. It also says "wifi is turned on but not connected to a network". it sees all the potential networks including mine but will not connect.

The password I use for the network is words and numbers? The wifi router security shows the passwrod as a Pre-Shared Key (PSK). Is that what you mean?

Security mode on the router is: WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK);
Authentication is:WPA-PSK-WPA2-PSK

use WPA2

the password will either be a word or a series of numbers and letters:

49 73 37 12 4c c6 a5 6d bd 73 c2 57 73

The only password is my own security one on the wifi router section. Not sure what you mean by the other passwrod, non shown?
WPA2 is used along with the other stuff as I highlighted (Authentication is:WPA-PSK-WPA2-PSK) as that is the main option apart from 64 or 128WEP. I did try WPA2-PSK on it's own but to no avail.

I am totally baffled as to why it did work then it stopped working after the update/patch to MP.

Having tried your suggestion I can confirm that it is an Apple orientated issue, not routers, that is creating this issue.

Thanks, for now and the advice you have given me. I will just use the ethernet. Maybe even convince the wife to sell the Apple and get a PC!

Skimming over this thread rather quickly... I see everyone gradually narrowing down the possibilities, and then when the conclusion winds up at the router, you suddenly have some secret knowledge that apparently exonerates the router, but you refuse to share it.

Suppose it's no skin off my nose. I'll just go back to ignoring this thread like I do every other one where the person asking the question isn't really interested in the answer. I figure when they've become sufficiently annoyed by whatever the problem is, they'll be back with a more open mind.

It is interesting to note that it is always the router never the Mac. So i download latest mac OS then router does not recognise the wifi aspect of it even though it sees it therefore fault must lie in router.

All other laptops and PC's in house work perfectly!! So solution change router!

I said thanks for the help but really people like you who cannot see what I have read "skimmed" as you said should just leave well alone.

It could be something like the old hidden SSID issue but I read this thread again and it's down to the laptop or the router.
