Need Help Defining Upgrade Process from G4 laptop to New Mac

I would like to "mirror" my present 15" G4, OS 10.5.8 laptop contents to a new MacBook Pro (exact model yet to be selected).

My concern is to retain all all serial numbers for apps, etc. I want an exact mirror of the G4.

I have a current clone, (bootable) of the G4 machine but don't know how to "restore" it to the new Intel based machine which will probably be running Snow Leopard.

Would appreciate any help.

the new machine will ask if you have any data to be transferred from another Mac.

Answer Yes to the question and then follow the instructions. You will need a firewire cable to connect the two machines together.

All your stuff will be transferred, including accounts and email settings, along with all your data. Preferences move too, which includes the serial numbers of the programs.
Once the process is complete, and you reboot the new machine, everything that was on the old machine will now be on the new one.

Do this BEFORE you create any accounts on the new machine. Firewire cable works best but a piece of ethernet cable will also suffice. (No need for a cross over cable)

Your new machine will certainly be running Snow Leopard.

So, if I understand correctly, I will end up witha perfect clone. I am mainlu trying to avoid having to re-enter all passwords, s/n's etc necessary to initialize existing applications.

as certain things will be different, the OS for instance, but all the applications that will run on SL will be there, along with their S/N's
