Even if this had been a CD from the HP, it should still have mounted on the desktop.

This is a black MacBook laptop, there is no mouse button. Should I try holding down the track pad bar and restarting the computer?

The trackpad bar is the mouse button.

you might also try restarting while holding down the eject button on the keyboard (located on top row nest to volume up control).
It's a slot loading drive

No pin hole
On some slot drives there was a small microswitch on the RH side but it requires power to operate.
She has not yet done the first suggestion.

good info for me too, I have been a windows guy (still am) since before electricity and recently bought my first mac (a very used clamshell) that I have since re-built with parts from e-bay for my grand daughter.(runs fine now all I have to do is learn how to use a mac) so I,m not up to speed on all the different drives on macs. Am learning though, guess I should stay off forums until I'm up to speed. Anyway, good luck to apolloattitude (if you ever get a windows PC I'm available

a lot of things translate across the platforms and you have hit the nail on a couple of threads this weekend.
After the Clamshell, and the early iMacs, Apple moved to slot loading optical drives. Some of those had a little microswitch, almost invisible, in the slot.
Another method of removing the disk is to hold down the mouse button or (see the above) trackpad button on a laptop, right at the startup chimes. Just hold until it spits the disk out.
Of course, if the disk is not ejected, then is the time to sit back and ponder.
