Why not the usual 1 year warranty? That would reach into the middle of 2013.
Not you need to pay a new screen and the cost of replacing it.

If this iMac was new when you purchased it, then it is still under warranty until the middle of 2013.
It would also be eligible for the AppleCare extended warranty at any time up to the day before it's one year anniversary.
Contact Apple, or your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider and get them to sort it out.
Your local PC repair shop is not going to be able to do this under warranty, it MUST be an AASP business.

First call Apple and report the problem

they will probably get you to take the machine to your local Apple Store.
Boot your machine and create a new admin account.
log out and then log in using that new account.
Is the screen still displaying the problem?
If yes, then it is not account caused.
Are you in the US? If so, the number you want is 1-800- My Apple (1-800- 692 7753)
