Help needed with 2010 Mac Pro desktop!

I am trying to set up my "new" used 2010 Mac Pro 6 core desktop. It came with the "OEM" one TB hard drive in bay 1 which I moved to bay 2 and installed an SSD in bay one. I could't use "migration assistant"as the old machine was running 10.6. I used carbon copy cloner to move everything to the SSD drive. That overwrote the operating system back to 10.6. I reinstalled 10.8 but the problem is when I start up I get the chime but all I get is a gray screen that hangs. It never gets to the Apple. I have to shut down and restart. It boots the 2nd time with no problem. Any Apple genius out there that can help? Any ideas gratefully accepted with many thanks.

SSD is pretty new stuff. Try it with stodgy old hard drives. If that works then ask the SSD supplier if there are updates for the product.

Let me be blunt here. I've seen this but it was cured by going back to old spinning rust.

Let's hope you are not repeating issues folks have reported for over a year. There's not much new going on here. Your more seasoned Apple owner knows to send such things back if the drive update (to be clear, that's from the drive maker and not Apple) doesn't clear it up.

I can't cover all the things that don't work in the land of SSD but once in awhile you find a person that was blissfully unaware what a mess SSD is.
