iMac G5 (PPC) doesn't shut down

My iMac G5 (PPC) freezes during shut down. All windows close and the
menu bar and the dock disappear. But it then freezes on the desktop
image and I have to shut it down by holding the power button in.

I have zapped the PRAM and reset the PMU, but same symptom. I have also repaired the disk and permissions.

When I start up it reports that the machine was shut down unexpectedly but there is nothing in the System log.

Any ideas?

You don't want to know. Trust me. Just keep doing what you've been doing, and eventually the problem will get worse. When it finally gets to the point where you are unwilling to deal with it anymore, get a new computer. The fix for this problem is likely going to be more than the computer is worth at this point, so use it until it gets to be more hassle than it's worth, after which just replace it.
