Mac desktops forum: Should I buy an Imac?

If your gonna get a new computer, go for it big. Get an iMac! Its loaded with features, and is like an upgrade of windows 7 almost.

About 2 weeks ago, I bought a new 21.5" iMac. it's the second one in the tier ($1499) with the TB drive.

With my limited usage so far as a disclaimer, it's the best computer I've ever owned. It replaced a Windows computer that bit the dust for some unknown reason. So all of the applications that I used with it were Windows based.

So, the first thing I did was load BootCamp and then a copy of Windows 7. Windows 7 "flies" on the iMac. Programs that took several seconds to load on my old computer (Vista) like Adobe Photoshop load almost immediately. I have to admit I've spent very little time on the OS X side, but that operation also flies. Mostly, I just leave it in Windows.

I'm trying, but it's such a joy to be able to run Windows the way it's supposed to run. The biggest thing holding me back is Office. I do have Office for Mac on my MB, but I just don't like the way it looks with the Mac program.

I sure if I spent some time with it, that I would get used to it, but at the moment, I'm just too lazy to overcome the "learning" curve with Office for Mac.

Back oh, right after Windows 95 came out and destroyed all information and applications I had on two hard drives on my Windows PC, I bought a Mac clone. Ot was a Power Computing Power Tower 180 and it ran great.

I got Microsoft's Office suite. It was the version that every Mac user hated because it was so Windows-like. But it was just like the version for the PC and I used it for years. Then Microsoft sold me an "upgrade" that no longer kept a list of regular addressees I wrote often. And took away further function. I got into the habit of very reluctantly upgrading Microsoft applications.

I'm currently using Office X, which is the version that came out just after Apple released OS X. There have been a number of releases since then, but I'm not upgrading until...

Well until I have to. I understand that Office X doesn't run under Snow Leopard. Which is another forced upgrade of a Microsoft product -- unless...

I did buy Apple's productivity suite for $99. It's not Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Numbers does a pretty good Excel, but it won't import anything from Quicken and I need that. Pages seems OK but I'm still using Word. Keynote is not Powerpoint -- it's better! And there is also Open Office.

So that is where I am at. Tempted to leave Microsoft entirely. Sorely tempted.

Or Tab Delimited would work too.
