Imessage, SMS problems

Just got an Iphone 4s (still had a 3!). My problem is that I can no longer send or recieve text messages from anyone who is not using an I device (droid or non-smartphone). I have tried resetting, resyncing, turing sms off, etc. but nothing seems to work. Any suggustions?

Unless you purchased the Text plan

from whomever your cell carrier is, then all is working as planned.

However, if you do have a text plan, then all iMessages should go through whether or not the end user has an iDevice.

iMessage will try the iDevice route first and then revert to SMS if it has to

Carrier issue

Thanks for your replies. It turns out that my carrier had mixed up my unlimited data/texting plan with my daughter's limited one when I upgraded. Was not expecting such a simple explanation. Thanks for your time.
