With a Canadian IP address I get none of the amazon Prime perks, can download no apps, stream no movies, or borrow any books. Is there a way around this?

The Kindle devices are the sole proprietary products of Amazon. They have forums where you can post questions if you can't get answers anywhere else. I've never been in Canada, but I have to say I'm surprised to hear what you report. I know you only get Prime free for the first month you have your Kindle. After that it's for a fee - it seems like it's around $75/year. You do have to create an account I know. I have a Kindle Fire and didn't sign up for Prime after the first month, but still can sometimes download free things. A lot of things I have to pay for are pretty cheap, like 99 cents for some of the games and books.
