First grandchild video chat advice needed

I have two daughters out of state, TN & NC. One just brought home first grand child (NC) and for some reason my wife is all excited. I want to set up some kind of video chat capabilities with one or both for my wife.
Both daughters have iphone 4s and use FaceTalk. They also have lap tops with web cams and wifi. All of us have gmail accounts. Nobody uses MSN Messenger.
I am running Win XP Prof, SP3 on Comcast cable, download 12 - 25 mps, upload 1 - 2 mps.
So far I have been considering a Logitech 525c web cam (30$ to 50$), and software like ooVoo, gmail chat, SKYPE and ????
Haven't figured out SKYPE charges yet. Free, or 2.3/min, or "buy a number"?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

It's free. You don't need to get a number. It's like Facetime. Facetime is only between Apple products like iPhone, iPod, iPad and Mac computers. So if you don't have an Apple product then you can use Skype. The other person has to download Skype also. I have Comcast also. Do you have a web camera? LIke on a laptop or tablet? You can probably get one pretty cheap at Fry's, etc. Hope this helps.

I use it to video chat to the UK, via Comcast cable.

Quality is usually pretty good, and it's free

P
