That's an ext. monitor is it available on the properties setting of video? You have to defer to it, thus select it. Under XP things can be difficult to do. From memory I suggest you check the video setting, it maybe offering displays(small monitors) like #1 and #2 to pick from, the default being the LCD of laptop as #1. I suspect the ext. VGA port of your laptop is OK. Plus, it's active, so verify from bios that is is enable or available, etc. if applicable. Come back with results.

Be sure the monitor output is active too

The other half of this setup is make sure the monitor itself is setup to output to that VGA port. Most TV's if that is it, will provide some menu in order to accept that connection. The laptop itself maybe already ready but the monitor isn't or needs to be been selected to provide the VGA port exit. usually, this isn't an auto setting the user has to do this step. Check that out... -----Willy
