Everything I've read says that you'll have to re-install all your programs. The upgrade to Win 8 Pro will only transfer/migrate applications from Windows 7 Home & Home Premium. Even Win 7 Pro and Ultimate users have to re-install applications. All the upgrade process does for other operating system versions is transfer your settings and personal data files, or just your data. Or it will alway permit a clean install where nothing is transferred/everything must be re-installed, including setting and data.

I'm moving from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro, and so far everything re-installs without a problem, but I'm only about halfway done and am probably going to take the opportunity to she'd some of the old software, but so far I haven't found anything that would work in Win 7 that wouldn't work in Win 8.

Thank you very much MercerH for such an outstanding answer! I was really thinking of dumping my Windows 8 Pro but, after I thought about which programs I am actually going to use, I have the CD's here. I guess it proves that it makes sense to always get the program disks. I hope I don't have any issues with MS on their suite.

Update: I tried running Office Suite 2007 and it would not run! Guess I will use Kingsoft instead because MS is not getting any more money for an office suite from me.

Everything you read? You couldn't be more wrong, they are in the program files folders.

They should still be in Program Files. Did you check? And do they still run? They might be incompatible, depending on the exact version you didn't tell about.

Let's see. Word is winword.exe. Search for that in Explorer and doubleclick. What happens? Same for your other programs.

If they run, just make new shortcuts. If they don't run, buy new versions or go back to Vista.
