Making a decent gaming PC from an OEM is just hard work and results may not be likeable. You already know the PSU side of things and all too often here on the forum it's advised to get a high power wattage and single rail PSU well above the video cards needs. If your Dell can accept generic "size" ATX type PSU, then look to upgrade, otherwise that alone would sink the deal being too costy or limited. Next, current high power video cards also don't like to be hot and hot they will be if you play prolonged times. That leads to better cooling, etc., besides getting the video card. If your gaming needs are simple then look at the newer yet simple but decent video card like the ATI 5450 or checkout reviews at http://www.tomshardware.com

If this simply too much to upgrade or expense, then consider outright new PC or pure gaming PC. That way your cash is better spend for long lasting results. In the long run that's better than the older Dell. Again, that depends just how much you plan to spend and play.

FYI- I use older Gateway

I yanked a Gateway and upgraded to Win7/ 64-bit and it isn't supported OS wise by the Gateway as it stops at Vista 32-bit. But, the mtrbd. is Intel and I've gotten everything else by end-running support elsewhere other than key items. easily replaced the CPU and added all the ram I could. The PSU is generic to my non-Gateway case and the setup easily tasked until I can't update/upgrade no more. I don't game, but do video editing and seems to handle these tasks, OK. Now, I hope that inspires you yet more. Oh yes, I have a yanked Dell 530, awaiting some pulled parts to make it all good again. enjoy -----Willy
