How to listen to Pandora through surround sound using HDMI?

First, let's start by confirming that I'm an electronics dope, so please talk real S L O W.

When I had my TV system, tuner, etc installed the technician said I'm going to set up this HDMI connection in case you want to hook up your PC. Well, I'd like to use my PC and the HDMI cable to listen to Pandora through my surround sound. Can I do so??

Please post the make and model of your equipment so that someone can offer helpful advice.

If your PC has an HDMI output, then you should be able to hook it up to an HDMI input on your audio system and listen to Pandora.

Here is my equipment. I do have an HDMI connection on my laptop. Again, thanks for any help.

If that's a recording of a telephone call it isn't really surround.

Simply connect the HDMI from the laptop to the receiver. The HDMI ports on the back of the receiver are numbered. Just use your receiver's remote to select the proper HDMI input.

By the way, that model Samsung TV has an apps feature, and you should be able to use Pandora on the TV instead of hooking up your notebook to the receiver. I'm not very familiar with the Samsung apps feature, so you should refer to the owner's manual for getting the Pandora app. All you would need is a digital optical audio cable (available from most electronics retailers). Attach the optical cable between the TV and the receiver and select the audio source on the remote.
