Remote control and monitor your home from anywhere.

Looking for recommendations on wirelessly connecting the components of my home.
Garage door
Lights
HVAC
Security Camera
Blinds
Alarm
Etc

What technologies are available on the market to connect all these devices using WIFI and an internet device, like the iPad ?
Is there a single application that can control all of the devices ? As I explore on-line each component above has their own maker, so can't best from worst on each device, also would prefer to have one APP to control all of them, not many.

There are companies that are integrating homes for this but for now, if you ask this question you may not be ready to do this yourself. I don't want to upset you but for now, today it's not something you get off the shelf and install as easy as a dimmer switch.

Use GOOGLE and try searches like WHOLE HOME REMOTE CONTROL and other variations.
