Explorer has stopped working

When closing out active tabs in Windows 7, I frequently get this message and have to press "cancel" to continue with my task or to open another page. How can I make this message stop appearing?

Try this,
At the command prompt, type Sfc /scannowand then press ENTER.

Sfc/scannow did not help

The advice to try Sfc/scannow did not help find the problem for when I close out a tab, I get an error message that Windows explorer has stopped working. Anyone have another thought? I am using windows 7 on an HP Pavillion dm4. I have run windows update and checked display drivers/graphics drivers.

My Windows 7 has no tabs to close out. I wonder if you are really writing about a tabbed web browser. There are so many today so I won't guess which one. Also IE was known to crash on exit but since that is well discussed and we don't have much detail as to version I'm going to wait for the details.

As it stands you shouldn't worry about reloading the OS or using SFC. That was not the cure for IE.

My cure was to use another browser. Your choice to try that.
