I recently purchased the Cisco E4200 v2 and a Samsung Series 7 laptop. The router is currently setup as dual band (mixed on both frequencies) yet my new laptop is very slow in comparison to my 5 year old HP laptop. The speedtest data seems fine but when testing actual download speeds between the Samsung and HP laptops, using iTunes as a test, the HP consistently gets 1.4+ mbps while the Samsung typically caps at 500 kbps. On occasion it will match the HP laptop but not often. Based on the HP laptop and speed test, it's not an internet issue. Another example is my home server (running Window's Home Server 2011) is very responsive on the Hp laptop while slow to respond on the Samsung laptop. Any thoughts on what I might check to improve download speed and server access speed?? Since we are on the subject, any way to determine which frequency the wireless card is running on?? My other devices on my network don't seem to have any issue although I'm not sure which frequency, wireless N, they are operating on. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

My Samsung RC512 was a slug on WiFi until Samsung pointed me to a newer WiFi driver.

I didn't think about that but I'll check for an updated driver. It'd be nice if that was the issue.

The Windows "driver update" button does not find this update. I had to ask Samsung. Later I noticed it was at the Samsung web site for my machine.

Would the IPv6 and IPv4 SPI firewall protection slow things down?? It's a setting on the router. In fact, what the heck is it??

From what you have said it sounds as if it might be a system configuration issue, the way one unit is set up as opposed to the other but it could be something else. The first thing I would look at would be to see if anything is running in the background. It could also be a F/W or security software settings. One thing to try, if you haven't already, is a hard wire hook up to see if there is a change in download/upload speeds. It sounds like a software issue but it is hard to say at this point.

I can try plugging it in directly to the router but I didn't think that was necessary since the HP laptop is not any issues which to me indicates it's a configuration issue. What really makes life difficult is I can't seem to find any consistency with the Samsung laptop. It would be easier if it would consistency run slow for example.

After plugging it in I get about 500 kbps downloading iTunes. Response time to my home server is much improved though. My HP ran at 1.2 mbps.
