How to forum: I'm in Libya and need a cheap way to connect to the internet

One of my students told me yesterday that Skype is selling a SIM card that can connect my laptop to the Wimax antennae without having to buy an unavailable Wimax. There are two Wimax antennae where I live. Will the Skype SIM card solve the problem.

I doubt it. Why not ask the seller to show you it does?

The seller is not in Libya...He heard about it last week in Italy. Things here in Libya are still gov controlled. The closest place I could find any equipment would be in Tunis and I'd like to go there for 2 days sometime in June.

A sim card is just data for the identification of your phone and storage of addresses and messages and such. It doesn't contain any electronics or software to send and receive data (communicate with the operator of the wireless network).
That's why I doubt it.
