How to set up Zone 2 on my receiver

I have a Denon receiver that has a Zone 2 set-up. I have surround sound speakers set up for the family room for watching tv/movies and have satelite speakers (with seperate volumn controls) in two other rooms.
I'd like to have the tv running in the family room and listen to a cd in another room. I read there could be issues with the power of the other components like the CD player that can cause problems?
I've walked thorugh the manual a couple of times and can't get it to work.

First of all, if you have a 7.1 channel receiver and are only using 5.1 in the main room, then what are called surround back would be designated for zone 2. Your audyssy speaker calibration setup would have to be done so the main room shows L,C, R and surround L and surround R. Then the other 2 amps will power 2 speakers in zone 2.
