How do you fix or repair a 404 Not Found error message ?

No matter what search engine I attempt to use , no matter what Web Site I attempt to click on always receive a 404 Not Found error message ( nigix ? )
How do you Fix or repair this recurring error?

I go to google.com (that's a search engine) type something in and you get a 404?

Or is this that IE weirdo thing about searching? I can't tell here but I never use it because the searches are often tainted by Bing (MSFT) playing up their own system.

If there is a hijack, Grif's advice on scanning usually finds it. Here's Grif's advice.

That's strange. It's a message from the webserver. Nothing you can do about it except asking it for an existing page.

- What happened if you don't click on a link, but copy/paste it to your address bar?
- Does it happen in all browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome) or just in one?

It happens in Both Browsers : IE & Mozilla.
Newest wrinkle is I can't delete Bing as a search engine. It's the defaulty search engine & I can't delete it!
Now what ??
IE explore works normally except when I try to search for something no matter what search engine I try.
I attempted to eliminate / delete all of the search engines. But I'm unable to delete Bing when trying to manage add ons.
I think my computer has been "hijacked" ???
Thanks any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
