Okay, bare with me while I try and explain haha!

I have a hard drive from my old personal computer that I just put into what was my family computer, which has become my "new" personal computer, as a slave drive. I'm trying to make it so my old hard drive is just for extra storage for videos, music, pictures and whatever other files I want to take off the main hard drive to use the main HD for just the OS (Windows XP), drivers, and programs. Is it possible to delete EVERYTHING (OS, drivers for the old computer, program files, ECT.) except the videos, music, ect I have on the old hard drive/slave drive without errors? Both HD have Windows XP. I also don't have room on my main hard drive to store all the files I want to keep that are on the slave drive so I wouldn't be able to move them to just wipe it.

I really don't know much about using a slave drive.

Try simple. Delete the folders on that STORAGE DRIVE such as Windows and Program Files. The rest can be explored later.

But wait, are you saying you have no backup copy?

No I don't have a backup copy of either drive, if thats what you were asking. I do have both backup discs for Windows XP and a Norton Bootable Recovery Disc though.

Also, I get an access denied error when I try to open any folder in "82b98014d367e937effa14" off of the storage drive. It says the folders are empty. I have display hidden files and folders and display contents of system folders turned on.

We have other ways if that is too hard.

But about your files. The moderators will recite this in unison for you!

Rather than deleting files, you can simply format the slave drive.
(By now, you have backed up everything important - right?)
If you decide to delete, rather than format:
To delete locked files, you can download, install and then run "Unlocker" from http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

Where to back up everything

I use an external drive for some applications (Quicken files, emails, documents),
a NAS (network attached storage device) for others (storing images of client's drives),
and a USB stick for applications I need to have when visiting clients. (I'm such a geek, never leave the house without my pico drive on a chain around my neck).
Periodically, I back up the really really important stuff to Blu-ray disc and take it to the safety deposit box at my bank.
For most people, the easiest is, to back up important stuff (Pictures, documents, financial data, emails, etc.) to CD or DVD.
