and that of many of the usual helpers here, "Please, DO NOT USE IT!".

Such registry cleaners and registry/system optimizers often cause more problems than they solve.

You are best uninstalling it without touching it, and solving any problems yourself, or asking in forums like these for assistance.

only reason I downloaded it was it was touted by cNet,which I trust.
In fact bought this particular lap top because of cNet.
I'm going to delete it right now,thank you so very much.

There will always be software offered through Download.com that we would otherwise wish wasn't.

I know that many people use these Optimizer software utilities and have no problems with them, and it is difficult to argue against that. But we find reports in these forums where users have been presented with problems after running registry cleaners and the like, and so we get a skewed view of them.

What we seem to see is this. Users who are inexperienced with computers use these applications but do not know, or are not aware, of what the apps are actually doing. A wrong move here, an incorrect change there, and a good, working, system can become unbalanced. Users who have more confidence in their computers find they do not need such utilities.

On a new system, (you said you have a new laptop), it should be running in tip-top performance right out of the box, and so there is no need to employ registry cleaners or system optimizers anyway.
