mainly because System 9.2 did not have this level of Admin/Non-Admin user built in.

Unless someone installed third party software, there was never a requirement, to my knowledge, to enter a password for anything, including making changes to the system.

Are you sure that this is not System 9.2 running under OS X (whatever version)? It may be a stupid question but the original iMac could, just, run OS X 10.0 or 10.1

TCP/IP Control Panel

Hi Chrismfreeman,

Under Mac OS 9.2, all you need to do in order to set up your iMac for internet access is to go to your TCP/IP control panel and make the relevant configurations.

If you're still using a dial-up connection and a 56k modem, you'd need to have the following settings:

Connect Via: PPP
Configure: Using PPP Server
Name Server Address: (Your ISP will be able to provide you with 2 addresses that you should enter in this section)

N.B. You will also need to enter your username, password and the phone number for your ISP into the PPP Control Panel; also you will need to select the modem you're using, if you're using the built in 56k modem then the settings would be:

Connect Via: Internal Modem
Mode: Apple Internal 56k Modem

That's pretty much how you'd configure things if still using a dial-up connection.

More likely nowadays, you'll be using broadband, which means you'll be connecting via Ethernet using the following settings in your TCP/IP control panel.

Connect Via: Ethernet
Configure: Using DHCP Server

There's a small chance you might be using the following settings for broadband access:

Connect Via: Ethernet
Configure: Manually

You really should phone your ISP while you're configuring your mac for internet access, as they will be able to provide you with the specific IP and DNS addresses that you'd need, plus a subnet mask and router address.
