I just installed the "free" AVG & in a few days my old version is expiring. I'm new at computers & I get an update that my old AVG is expiring. How do I know if I have protection on my new version?

Didn't you uninstall the old (paid?) version before installing the new free one? It might be better now to uninstall both and start from scratch with the free one.
Better wait for an AVG representative to tell the details on how to do that.

By the way, if your old version expires you must have had that a year. Then you have a full year experience. Then you shouldn't say you're new at computers.

Hi oldcahoot,

Please follow this AVG Forums article to remove all components of AVG and install AVG Free Edition. Use the AVG Remover utility and then click AVG Free in the end of the article (not the Antivirus nor the Internet Security, if you want to install the free variant). After installing AVG Free Edition, you'll notice that the expiration date is gone.

it means that your previous version is going to expire. just install the upcoming versions from the internet. so that your computer will be protected

Hi ssseo41,

Yes, old versions will be discontinued someday however there is still a lot of supported versions of AVG (9; 2011; 2012; 2013) at the moment. However this issue seems to be connected to the expiring license more than shutting down specific version of AVG.
