Hanging on system32\drivers\avgidshx

Hi, I need help and I'm really losing the will here! I'm trying to start in safe mode but I'm hanging on system32\drivers\avgidshx - any ideas whats wrong. From reading other posts I thought it was AVG but when I load the rescue file my system says missing operating system. Should I be very concerned?

Our experience suggests the loading process is hanging on something after the avgidsh driver is loaded. To verify this, please disable AVG drivers as described in this AVG Forums post and restart your computer.

Should the issue persist (the booting process hangs on a different driver, possibly the mup.sys), the problem is caused by something else. Repairing your operating system installation will probably be the most straightforward and least time consuming way how to rectify the situation. If unsure, we recommend contacting local computer repair shop, they will also check whether some of the hardware components are not faulty.

I have been struggling with a 'hanging' windows on start up and think it is exactly the avgidshx that is at fault. The instructions above seem simple enough so I followed the link and made the iso disc. It loaded asked for agreement, fine, then gave me a set of options and menus that bare ABSOLUTELY NO RESEMBLANCE to the described method! Absolutely no access to the drivers what so ever. Is there a mistake somewhere?

Hello 1giveup1,

Please try re-mounting your local drives using the Mount menu item. That may mount the volumes to be later available using the file manager under /mnt/. However, if your drive is encrypted, it will not be possible to access it using another operating system without proper drivers and password.
Also, you could try another live Linux system to access your hard drive (for example the Ubuntu). It is not important what system is used to rename the drivers described in the abovementioned post.

If there is any error message displayed when using the AVG Rescue CD, please take a picture of it using a digital camera and upload the image to some online storage service so we could take a look.

Please let us know what the current situation is.
