this situation with lost internet connection can be caused by conflict with other installed protection or firewall application (or remains of incorrectly uninstalled).

Please disable any other used protection application or firewall. What is the current situation?

Can you please check the situation after AVG uninstallation? (through AVG remover)

What existing software did AVG conflict with? And how did you find out?

I've yet to find software to kill a machine. Yes that old Chernobyl virus did corrupt some machines but the design today stops that.

This would be a first to find software kill a machine in today's designs.

The Avg tune up program killed one of my computers also. It is a Dell Insperon 8600, old, I know, but I manage to keep it working and fairly fast as well. I have Windows XP sp 3. Like I said, It killed the old girl. Thanks AVG.

Just happened to me, to. I had heard good things about Avast, and I just paid for their super-de-duper package. I dl'd it, and come to find out that, totally without permission or notice, Avast took control of my computer and completely altered all my network/connection settings. And of course no way to troubleshoot, and no way, as far as I can tell, to turn the damn thing off. Only hope was a system restore, which worked. Excuse me for asking, but exactly what is the difference between Avast destroying my ability to use the internet and a virus doing the same thing?

Well, that's all for now: I'm late for a session to get a refund for this POS anti-virus/firewall program from AVG.

At first, I need to mention that Avast is not developed nor distributed by AVG Technologies. You should probably seek help in the Avast forum.

The cause of the issue could be that Avast removed an infection which acted as network filter and the infected driver was not replaced with a clean variant of the driver. But this is mere speculation. I think Avast customer care specialists will troubleshoot the situation with you.
It is also a good idea to check your proxy settings, DNS configuration and uninstall other network filtering software as mentioned by R. Proffitt.

Please refrain resurrecting old threads in forums. This thread seems to be almost 2 years old. It is likely that the thread, though it has a very general name, is not describing exactly your issue. From the troubleshooting point of view, it is better to describe individual issues in separated threads. The forum is easier to read for other visitors.
